THE RIGHT TO DREAM-PRESENTED BY LIVING VOICES
11:30am & 12:30pm, Tues, Feb 9, PUB 9208
Through the viewing and participation in this live presentation of THE
RIGHT TO DREAM, students will gain a greater understanding of the
American civil rights movement.
The Right to Dream is Raymond/Ruby’s story, a young African American
growing up in Mississippi on the brink of the American Civil Rights
movement. Early on, Raymond/Ruby feels the daily impact of racism and
then is introduced to leaders like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King,
Jr., showing him/her that something different may be possible for blacks
in America. Dedicated to joining these leaders, Raymond/Ruby receives a
scholarship to attend Tougaloo College. Raymond/Ruby begins his/her
involvement in the movement when s/he leads a sit-in at a local lunch
counter. S/he then becomes a part of SNCC (the Student Non-Violent
Coordinating Committee) and is a participant in the voter registration
drive, the March on Washington, Freedom Summer and the March from Selma
to Montgomery.

NEWS LINKS
Recently faculty and staff have commented that they are not always aware
that Day at a Glance provides links to more information. Because the
daily communication venue has become increasingly large, it’s prudent
that we often provide only the first paragraph or two of the stories,
with links to the complete articles. Please note that “Read more” is
actually that link. Simply double click on the words “Read more”
in blue and you will be directed to the
article. Be sure to note that these articles often provide links as well
to important supporting documents.
These articles are posted on the college Web site at
http://www.shoreline.edu/pionews.aspx on specific pages including:
Each page provides a different category of news about the college. For
example, On Campus contains articles about budgets (both state and SCC),
legislative updates, important college initiatives, etc. Academics
features articles about academic programs, scholarship awardees, grant
updates, service learning, etc. Faces at SCC is where we feature
stories about students, faculty and staff. Note that internally we may
refer to these pages as “the blogs” only because we are using blog
software to post stories. At this point, traditional blog features such
as comment posting is not available.
These news pages can be accessed through the links in DAAG, by going
directly to the Web address above or through the “News & Events” link on
the college home page at
